A watch 3D model set we built for Wearitar shows how photorealistic product assets can power real-time interaction and virtual try-on. This case study walks through how we produced detailed, optimized watch models that hold up in close-up while staying light enough to run smoothly inside a real-time viewer.

Client Overview

Wearitar is a Toronto-based 3D and AR product showcase platform. It helps brands present products through interactive 3D viewing, virtual try-on, behavioral analytics, and 3D asset distribution, making digital product experiences both more engaging and more measurable for e-commerce brands and retailers.

Project Challenges

Wearitar needed a set of watch 3D models that could demonstrate what its platform does in both real-time 3D viewing and AR try-on. The models had to look premium from every angle while staying light enough for smooth interaction.

The hard part was product-grade realism in close-up. A watch gives the viewer nowhere to hide:

  • dial subdials and moon phase elements
  • Roman numerals and fine dial markings
  • polished stainless steel surfaces
  • reflective glass and sapphire-like materials
  • leather strap texture and stitching
  • case edges, bezel details, and crown geometry
3D watch model detail: case profile, bezel, crown, and buckle in a single view

All of it had to survive optimization for real-time rendering, so shoppers could rotate, zoom, and inspect the watch without the viewer stalling.

Project Solutions

Realism in a watch comes from materials, not polygon count. To make the CGI read as an actual timepiece, we rebuilt each surface as a physically based material:

  • polished and brushed metal
  • glass reflections and transparency
  • leather grain and stitching
  • dial textures and engraved details
  • subdial depth and moon phase elements

These details carry the whole model, because the viewer is free to zoom in as far as the geometry allows.

Scope of Work

  • photorealistic watch 3D models built from client references
  • real-time optimized versions for in-browser 3D viewing
  • AR-ready assets for virtual watch try-on
  • source files prepared for reuse in further scenes and renders

Production Process

1. References. We started from the available product photos, dimensions, and material references. They defined the proportions, surface finishes, and small construction details that would be visible during close-up interaction.

2. Precision modeling. Our artists rebuilt the watch geometry from scratch (case, bezel, crown, lugs, buckle, and strap), keeping topology clean while preserving the sharp edges a premium watch needs.

3. Materials and textures. Every surface was authored as a physically based material, so metal, glass, and leather behave correctly under the viewer’s lighting rather than only in a fixed render.

4. Optimization for real-time. With the high-detail model complete, we reduced unnecessary polygon density, reworked UV layouts, and prepared texture maps efficiently, keeping detail in the dial, case, and strap, where the eye actually goes.

5. Testing. Each model was tested inside a real-time viewing environment, not just in the 3D software, because that is where performance problems actually show up.

6. Review and delivery. We worked through review rounds with the client to refine materials, reflections, and small details, then delivered the assets as platform-ready GLB files suited to interactive 3D viewing and virtual try-on.

Project Results

The finished models went live on Wearitar’s platform, where shoppers interact with the product in real time: smooth rotation, deep zoom, and a virtual watch try-on that lets them see the piece before buying.

This is one of the delivered models, running here on this page. Drag to rotate it, zoom in on the subdials and the stitching, and on a phone tap the AR icon to try it on.

Key outcomes:

  • photorealistic detail that holds up in close-up
  • smooth interaction inside the 3D viewer
  • clear presentation of materials and finishes
  • try-on-ready assets for Wearitar’s platform
  • reusable 3D assets for product showcase and distribution

Conclusion

This project shows how AR 3D modeling bridges photorealistic product presentation and interactive performance, two things that usually pull in opposite directions. For watch brands, accessory brands, and e-commerce platforms, the result is a product experience that works across web, mobile, and AR without a separate asset for each. The same logic runs on marketplaces: the same GLB file works across Amazon, Shopify, and other storefronts.
