Amazon AR View: What It Is and Why Your Listings Need It

Amazon AR View is the feature that lets shoppers spin your product in 3D and place it in their own room, right from your listing. On the product page, it shows up as two buttons: View in 3D and View in Your Room. If your listings don’t have them, shoppers are making decisions with less information — and often making them on a competitor’s page instead.

How Amazon AR View Works for the Shopper

A shopper opens your listing and taps View in 3D. Instead of a set of photos, they get an interactive model of the product. They can rotate it a full 360°, tilt it, and zoom in close enough to see the fabric texture, the stitching, or the wood grain. This is what makes Amazon view in 3D different from a photo gallery. Photos show the angles you chose. A 3D model shows every angle the shopper wants to check. There is no "what does the back look like" question left unanswered.

View in Your Room: Placing the Product in a Real Interior

The second button is View in Your Room on Amazon’s mobile app. The shopper points their phone camera at their living room, and the product appears in it — at true scale.

For furniture, this answers the two questions that stall most purchases: will it fit, and will it match. A shopper can see whether the sofa actually fits between the window and the doorway before they order it. That confidence shows up in fewer abandoned carts and fewer returns. This is the same technology behind our AR 3D modeling services.

##How the 3D Model Gets on Your Listing

The buttons don’t appear on their own. A listing gets them when a 3D model is uploaded to it through Seller Central, in the Manage 3D Models section. Since December 2023, Amazon accepts new 3D content in GLB only — a single file format that packs the product’s geometry, materials, and textures together (that’s what an Amazon GLB file is).

One GLB file activates both experiences at once: View in 3D and View in Your Room.

Amazon’s requirements for the file are strict: under 5 MB, under 20,000 triangles, textures no larger than 1024 × 1024 pixels. After upload, Amazon’s team reviews the model before it goes live — usually within two weeks.

One more requirement to know upfront: uploading 3D content is available to brand-registered sellers. If your brand is enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, the option is already in your Seller Central menu.

You don’t photograph or scan the product yourself. A 3D studio builds the model from your product photos and dimensions — the physical item never needs to be shipped anywhere. Our GLB 3D model services cover exactly this: files built to Amazon’s technical requirements, made to pass moderation the first time.

What You Lose Without It — Amazon’s Own Numbers

These figures come from Amazon’s own published data (Amazon News, September 2024):

  • 2X — the average improvement in purchase conversion in 2022 when shoppers clicked View in 3D or Virtual Try-On on listings that had the feature enabled.
  • 9% — the average sales improvement when View in Your Room is enabled on a listing (2023 Amazon study).
  • 8X — the growth in the number of shoppers viewing products in AR on Amazon between 2018 and 2022.
  • 94% — of surveyed shoppers said they would use Virtual Try-On again (2022 Amazon survey of over 2,000 customers).

Amazon does not guarantee future performance based on prior results.

The logic behind the numbers is simple. A shopper comparing two similar products will pick the one they can rotate, inspect, and place in their own room. If that isn’t your product, the sale goes to the listing where it is. A listing without a 3D model isn’t just missing a feature — it’s underearning every day it competes against listings that have one.
